Centre for Remote Health – Stage 2 (Flinders University Adelaide)

Design and construction of a new Centre for Remote Health Precinct (stage 2), incorporating teaching, research and office facilities.

Nestled tastefully amongst the trees, this single storey building was designed and constructed with the environment and local culture in mind. The 560m2 consists of two main function areas which operate independently of each other. Area A consists of two lecture theatres, large conference rooms, common areas, kitchenette, amenities and welcome foyer. Area B encapsulates the business end of the building; 17 fully enclosed offices, 8 open work stations, store room and printer/photocopying room. The overall design also includes a new car park.

As mentioned previously, environment and cultural sensitivity were key in the undertaking of this project. Extreme consideration was given to the front of the building to embrace the existing sacred site surrounds and the entire project incorporates a culturally sensitive design, creating an environment that is open and inviting to all.

In nurturing the environment, careful attention was paid to the roof design to funnel natural light into the centre of the building. Fixtures and fittings were chosen for their durability, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance.
